Dydd Gŵyl Ddewi Hapus!! Happy St. David’s Day!!

I’m writing this on March 1st – apparently, according to the Met Office, it’s the first day of Spring. Or if you prefer the Google version, they indicate a day later this month!!

It seems like it today with people in the Principality wearing their daffodils with pride – also I hasten to add – some wear leeks.

Which ever way you look at it, the winter has been very long and drawn out.

Looking forward to a busy 2013

I can’t believe it’s that time of year again – where has the year gone?

It’s the “silly season” - the school kitchens have been busy the last couple of weeks providing Christmas lunches – it’s  a known fact that it is always the meal customers remember and the school catering team are judged by.

Partners with LACA

Young's Seafood are very pleased to once again be 'Partners with LACA'.  I am personally looking forward to attending as many of the regional meetings as I possibly can over the coming months in order to participate in the discussions which are affecting our much cherished school meals sector.

Let us help you go for bronze, silver and gold

By Chris Walkden, Bernard Matthews Foodservice

I am sat reading the latest EDUcatering magazine and spotted an article about another caterer achieving a Food for Life Catering Mark.  This award is a fantastic way for caterers to gain an independent endorsement for serving fresh food.  It’s also a great way for you to build up your customers’ trust in the food they are eating.

Those who receive the mark are also being recognised for promoting healthy eating and eco-friendly menus – two subjects that I am very passionate about.

Get Pudding Day - WHAT A DAY!

After very early starts, myself and Martin Walker ventured into schools around the country for the last day of National School Meals Week, which was 'Get Pudding Day' sponsored by Ambrosia.

Martin was at the official launch venue, Walkergate School in Newcastle and myself (and Kate Snow) in Garden Fields Junior School in St Albans. All of the Home Economist Team were also in schools from North Somerset to Doncaster; from Trafford to Lancashire - all very busy and having a great day!

It’s all about Mary’s Meals today… and so it should be!

Yesterday I went to watch a special NSMW private screening of ‘Child 31 – The Story of Mary’s Meals’ and although I didn’t need convincing of this charities superb work, I was completely moved by this film.

I’d encourage anyone who has a chance to watch it to do so - you can see a preview of it on the Mary’s Meals website.

LACA / ParentPay research is launched in front of a watching TV audience of millions!

What an exciting start to NSMW! The LACA / ParentPay School Meals and Daily Life Issues research report finally launched after months of hard work from all involved!  It was lights, camera, action as the BBC Breakfast TV team joined staff and pupils, LACA, AVF Marketing and me at Bishop Challoner, Catholic Collegiate School in Tower Hamlets, London for the launch of NSMW. There were three live broadcasts, with Graham Satchell interviewing Anne Bull, LACA Chair and report author, Arnold Fewell as well as students from the school.

We're all set for the launch of the LACA and ParentPay research

It’s our second year working with LACA on the School Meals and Daily Life Issues research and I’m so pleased we had such a great response from parents - a huge 12,000 responded to the survey making it the biggest survey of its kind – thank you to everyone that took the time to complete the survey.
