Don't panic -  I do have an up to date CRB check! Also, if you are also concerned about the content of the meal we seem to be sharing, don't worry, this picture was taken in Desoto County, near Memphis, on my recent trip to the States to look at how the meals service operates there. I will be covering this in more detail later in other publications, suffice to say that things are done very differently there but actually we are all facing very similar challenges.

New Year Update

LACA has joined forces with Jamie Oliver and several other school food campaign groups to urge the government to re think its position on school food standards. This decision has been taken following  feedback from members who are concerned that with academy and free schools not being required to meet the same standards as maintained schools, this could lead to a fragmentation of service provision and a loss of confidence in the offer we are providing in the majority of our schools.

Anyone who has read the Guardian or watched the news today will know that Jamie Oliver has followed LACA's lead in asking Michael Gove why Academy Schools do not have to meet nutritional standards and why the school lunch grant is no longer ring fenced.

(The Northern Ireland region is currently dormant). Since its inception, LACA has set out to inform, develop, represent and support its Members through a range of initiatives and services.
