Leicestershire pupils take part in planning new primary school menu

Pupils from Broom Leys School recently played a major part in planning Leicestershire County Council's new primary school menu, which launched across the county earlier this week (Monday 30th April).

Typical dishes include chicken risotto, quorn dippers, salmon and broccoli tagliatelle and seasonal fresh fruit pancakes.

Youngsters from Thringstone Primary School and Warren Hills Community Primary School in Coalville also helped to plan the food.

School meals provider Chartwells wins catering contract with Derby City Council

School meals provider Chartwells, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has won a three year catering contract worth £4.5 million by Derby City Council.

Chartwells will deliver school catering services to 5,700 pupils across 32 primary and special schools in Derby city.

Chartwells works with 13 local authorities across the UK, catering for thousands of students and serving 57 million quality meals a year to pupils throughout the country.

School canteen in Derbyshire gets makeover

The Ilkeston school canteen in Derbyshire has undergone a facelift and to coincide with the new look, has created a new menu.

Parents and school children had the final say on what went on the new menu.

Kate Le Prevost, from the school, said: "It's really important that pupils eat a healthy meal and the school wanted to make sure there was one on offer every day.

"I'd say about 60% of the students have a school meal so it was important they had their say on what's served up.

SFSS produces school meal recipes book

Leicestershire County Council's School Food Support Service (SFSS) has created a new book with school meal recipes which can be made at home.

The recipes chosen are some of the most popular from recent school meals menus in Leicestershire.

Classic dishes include cheese and potato pie and traditional shortcrust chicken pie and gravy and modern favourites including Spanish frittata and salmon tagliatelle.
