Pupils from Birmingham begin gardening

Pupils from James Brindley School in Birmingham have planted the first of their three fruit and vegetable gardens, courtesy of Sodexo, a leading provider of on-site service solutions.

As part of Rocket Gardens' Dig for the Future project, which encourages schools to get children growing organic vegetables and learning about the food they eat, Sodexo is providing schools in communities where it operates with seasonal fruit, vegetable and salad gardens.

Grace Academy Solihull students partner with Aspens Services

Students at the Grace Academy Solihull have partnered with Academy caterer Aspens Services to supply them with fresh, local produce - grown in the Academy’s own vegetable garden.

Leek and potato soup and leek, potato and cheese pie – made using leeks grown at Grace Academy Solihull - are some of the first dishes to appear on the Academy's lunchtime menu through the new initiative.


Aspens is using the GreenGracers brand name devised by students to identify and promote dishes using the Academy-grown produce.

AiP wins five year catering contract with Worcestershire school

Award winning education caterers Alliance in Partnership (AiP) has won a new five-year catering contract with a Worcestershire school.

Birchensale Middle School in Batchley has chosen AiP to provide meals for its 398 pupils.

Business manager Pauline Begley said: "We were impressed by AiP's green credentials, inventive menus and inclusive attitude and look forward to working with them."

David Weller, managing director for AiP added: "We are extremely pleased to have won this contract and have lots of new and exciting ideas to contribute to Birchensale Middle School."

Contract caterer Aspens secures three year deal with North Birmingham Academy

Independent contract caterer Aspens Services has been awarded a new three-year foodservice deal by North Birmingham Academy, part of the expanding E-ACT group of Academies.

The foodservice deal starts in January 2012 and will enable Aspens to continue to work closely with the Academy, which is set to move into brand-new buildings currently under construction.  Aspens is advising on the design and layout of the new dining facilities which will cater for up to 1,200 students.

At the same time, the company is celebrating securing the Soil Association’s Food for Life Silver C

The one year contract with independent First School, The Shrubbery in Sutton Coldfield, adds to the five Coventry Foundation Independent schools contracts secured last year by AiP.

Education caterers AiP wins tender through Worchester County Council

Education caterers Alliance in Partnership (AiP) has won a new contract worth £390,000 to provide new menus at three schools - Aston Fields Middle, Stoke Prior First and Tardibigge First.

The contract includes the daily provision of hot and cold fresh meals using a variety of healthy, nutritious local and ethically sourced produce.

The new school meal service will be prepared and cooked from the hub kitchen at Aston Fields and delivered to the two feeder schools, Stoke Prior First and Tardibigge First School.
