21 Jul 2016

Derbyshire County Council Catering Service has been awarded the Silver Food for Life Catering Mark in recognition of the high quality food that they serve in primary schools and nurseries across the county.

Caitlin Bisknell, Derbyshire County Council’s deputy cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Research has shown a link between good food, good health and academic attainment so we hope this scheme will help our children develop healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime.

“This award recognises the excellent work our school catering service does to provide healthy meals to give our children the best start in life.”

The council were awarded the Bronze Award last year and now spends a minimum of 5% of its total ingredient budget on organic produce. The Silver Award also recognises that the catering service uses ingredients that are better for animal welfare.
