Derbyshire school wins Canteen Rescue challenge

25 Jul 2016

Brimington Junior School in Chesterfield, Derbyshire has won a prize worth more than £10,000 to overhaul its dining room in a national competition run by the Children’s Food Trust, YPO, and Elygra Marketing Services.

Pupils scooped the honour after making a film to set out its bid for help to turn its canteen nightmare into a dream dining room.

Darshana Dholakia, Children’s Food Trust director of marketing and communications and judge for the competition, said: “Children tell us that where they eat is actually more important to them than what they’re eating.

“Put another way, if we invested as much time into creating great spaces for eating in school as we do into cooking tasty, healthy food for children, we’d see even more kids wanting to give healthier school food a try.

“The pupils at Brimington really brought their entry to life and showed us the difference this prize will make to their lunchtimes – we can’t wait to see the end result.”

The school will now get to choose £6,500 worth of new furniture and accessories from YPO to create their new-look dining space, plus a £3,000 package of marketing kit and customer service training from Elygra Marketing Services.
