Innovate Services, the innovative school catering operator, has launched brand new catering facilities at George Abbot School in Guildford, which has seen the number of students using the facilities at least treble.

Innovate has revamped facilities in three areas of the school, which currently has over 1,970 students. All have been designed to provide an increased menu choice, including a ‘World Food’ concept in one building. All have introduced an environment where both students and staff can relax or socialise.

County launches drive to increase numbers claiming free school meals

Derbyshire County Council is launching a campaign which aims to make sure that all school pupils entitled to free school meals claim them.

There are 3,000 school pupils in Derbyshire not getting their free school lunch, according to figures released by the Government.

The campaign includes posters in buses, leaflets and posters sent to hundreds of places across Derbyshire, and schools sending the message out to parents.

Councillor Mike Longden, cabinet member for education, said: "We want to make sure that every pupil entitled to a free school lunch gets one.

School caterers Alliance in Partnership win Gold Standard for second year running

The event, which took place last week, saw over 200 delegates from 120 leading UK caterers gather together to attend.

The awards recognised the serving of ethical and environmentally sustainable food, and the assembled caterers' commitment to providing freshly-prepared meals to schools, nurseries, hospitals, care homes, universities and workplaces around the country.

£5.45bn budget for new local authority public health services

A £5.45bn two-year, ring-fenced public health budget for local authorities has been announced as responsibility for taking the lead in improving public health switches from NHS trusts to local authorities on April 1.

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt said that at this would help drive local efforts to improve health and wellbeing in their communities by tackling the wider determinants of poor health.
