LACA highlights importance of going local during National School Meals Week

09 Nov 2022
Chair of LACA Brad Pearce made a short video showcasing the work he does in Plymouth to feed children with healthy, sustainable and local food.

He said: “So here we are in my home town of Plymouth on the waterfront and what better place to highlight the work that school caterers across the country are doing to put more local food on children’s plates. The importance of sustainability shouldn’t be underestimated. I know that school caterers across the country are doing their very best to find local solutions to get more local food onto school menus.

“I would encourage all school caterers to talk to their suppliers, their distributors and their wholesalers to have a conversation about how best we can work together for the local economy, the environment and most of all what is great for children.”

Brad met with David Barrett from Tamar Fresh in Cornwall who have helped supply CaterED fresh produce for many years.

Heidi Price from Yealmpstone Farm Primary, added: “At Yealmpstone Farm we think that school meals are really important to our children in particular they tasted a lot more vegetables than they would perhaps normally taste at home and obviously it's good to encourage them to be healthy.”
