National School Meals Week will return to the House of Commons

24 May 2016

The House of Commons Banqueting and Events Team has agreed to LACA’s request to hold an event in the Jubilee Room during National School Meals Week.

Scheduled for Wednesday 2nd November, a number of MPs and Peers will be invited to sample a selection of dishes that feature on school meals menus across the country.

The application to hold the event was sponsored by the Shadow Children’s Minister Mrs Sharon Hodgson, who also chairs the School Food APPG and seconded by the Shadow Housing and Planning Minister Dr. Roberta Blackman-Woods, who is also Vice Chair of the School Food APPG.

LACA’s chair of events Neil Porter, said: “We are delighted to be returning to Westminster to continue our work of keeping education catering high on the political agenda.

“It is a terrific opportunity for us to demonstrate to Members of the House just how tasty, healthy and nutritious today’s school meals are, particularly at a time when child health is continually in the headlines.

“We want the Members to go back to their constituencies and engage with local authorities and free schools and academies to see what can be done to increase the number of children enjoying a school meal.”

LACA chair Peter McGrath, said: “LACA is indebted to Mrs Hodgson and Dr. Blackman-Woods for their continued support for our work in promoting healthy eating for the nation’s school children.

“To have enabled such a high profile occasion is marvellous and every Member of the House will be contacted in the coming months to put across our message and invite them to come along to the Jubilee Room, enjoy the food and see for themselves the terrific work that school caterers do on a daily basis.”

LACA’s NSMW team are already busy formulating plans for the high profile event, bringing the industry together to showcase the very best of what education catering has to offer.
