President of BFFF praises resilience of frozen food market

28 Nov 2014

Peter Allen, president of the British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF), has praised the level of economic recovery in the UK and the growth of frozen food, but suggested there is still a long way to go until consumer confidence returns.

In a speech at BFFF’s annual luncheon, Peter Allan highlighted the struggle experienced by the UK’s retail industry as a whole, but noted the frozen food market’s continued growth as well as growth in the foodservice industry.

Peter Allan said: “Commentators have been surprised by both the strength and the breadth of the economic turnaround, however a low level of wage inflation has resulted in a much healthier economy but less happy individuals, many of whom are still struggling to see any real increase in their disposable income.

“As part of a five year strategic plan, we are reviewing each aspect of the federation’s work. This year we have introduced the roles of chairman and chief executive to work with a BFFF board as part of a programme of modernisation. We are becoming a more modern, progressive and effective organisation, allowing us to support our industry and ensuring that we deliver benefits and services to all members in the future.”

The BFFF annual luncheon took place at London’s Hilton Park Lane for industry specialists in the frozen food sector.
