LACA reacts to childhood obesity report

11 Oct 2019
LACA has reacted to the Chief Medical Officers Special Report into Childhood Obesity

It said: “LACA welcome the report by the Chief Medical Officer Dame Sally Davies on childhood obesity. There are many great recommendations in the paper around advertising, food formulation and the implementation of the school food standards.

We wholeheartedly endorse the recommendation that the Government should increase the funding of the free school meal allowance. School food is vital for children’s health but the current funding levels are not sustainable, especially with the rising cost of food and labour. Therefore, by raising the free school meal allowance, we can ensure that all children benefit from a hot, healthy and nutritious school meal, which continues to meet the school food standards. This is something that LACA have long campaigned for.”
