Welcome to the Local Authority Caterers Association Website!
LACA is the professional body representing 1000 catering managers and suppliers who provide catering services to all sectors of Local Authorities in England, Wales and Scotland. Local authority caterers are responsible for providing more than 2.5 million school meals a day, civic catering such as town halls and leisure centres, for social services catering such as residential homes for the elderly, day centres and meals on wheels.

Make sure you read this week's Caterer & Hotelkeeper magazine for the launch of the 'School Meals Matter' campaign. This campaign is a joint initiative with LACA and the magazine.
The magazine is getting behind our sector with a two pronged approach, galvanising support for the sector from the hospitality industry and raising awareness to an incoming Government of the importance of the continuation of the school lunch grant.
We will post further information on the web site and suggest ways you might get involved in due course. This is excellent support and we are very pleased the Caterer and Hotelkeeper is supporting our sector in this way.

LACA becomes a Change4Life partner
LACA is delighted to advise Members that the Association has been officially accepted by the Government as a Change4Life Partner, effective immediately.

The Competition
This annual competition puts the preparation, cooking, creativity and presentation skills of school chefs to the test.
The competition is open to all kitchen-based staff employed by organisations that are full members of LACA and are involved with the daily preparation of school meals.
Each entrant is required to produce, in just one and a half hours, a healthy balanced two- course meal, that would appeal to 11 year olds in school.

Finishing Touches 2010
The Finishing Touches Display Salon will take place during the LACA conference on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th July at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.
Finishing Touches is a static culinary display salon organised by LACA in association with the Craft Guild of Chefs.
Now in its fourth year the competition is aimed at all levels of staff employed in any aspect of local authority catering capable of producing excellent craft pieces. It provides entrants with the opportunity to show off their skills which would not normally be seen during their everyday profession.
Two new categories have been introduced for the 2010 competition - Bread Rolls and Floral Sugar Work - giving eight classes in total for this year.
