Caerphilly holds catering service performance awards

Caerphilly County Borough Council recently held an awards ceremony to recognise the hard work and dedication of their front line catering services staff.

In the year 2011-2012 over 700 staff were trained in many different areas including: Food Safety, Customer Care, the Appetite for life programme and Business Administration, which has led to 25 establishments achieving 100% in Performance Monitoring.

A further 58 achieved the high standard of gold, meaning they had to achieve 96%-99%.

An extra special award was presented to Glyn Gaer Primary School for not only achieved 100% compliance this year but also over the last two years in all quality standards during an independent monitoring audit. Standards have remained high despite the increasing numbers of meals requested.

Councillor David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “Every day catering services produces over 15,000 meals within the borough. To do this successfully we need a workforce that is trained and highly skilled which, as you can see from the high standards being achieved, is what I believe we have.”
