Funding helps Cool Food Pro make sustainable menu planning easier

Cool Food Pro, the free online environmental impact calculator from the Soil Association, has helped food providers save the equivalent of driving 26 million miles in a car and conserved enough water to fill 662 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
Smruti Naik-Jones, chief sustainability officer of Deloitte UK and North & South Europe, said: “In addition to our own net-zero target, we want to understand how we can contribute to societal decarbonisation. By investing in projects like Cool Food Pro, we can use our reach and capabilities to unlock the power of collective action for the climate. Together, we can help drive the systemic change needed to achieve net-zero.”
When using Cool Food Pro, caterers now access detailed insights into the CO2e emissions, water consumption, and biodiversity impact of their entire menu, right down to individual ingredients.
By enabling users to make practical and bespoke changes, sustainable food choices are more accessible than ever, helping to drive collective transformation across the food industry.
Deborah Taylor, Cool Food Pro project manager at the Soil Association, added: “Cool Food Pro is more than a carbon calculator; it’s a research-based industry leader that educates users and allows them to understand the true impact of their menus and ingredients on water consumption, CO2e and biodiversity. Cool Food Pro is completely free, making the movement toward a more sustainable food system accessible to all.”
Alongside these new features, Cool Food Pro continues to run practical workshops across schools, universities and corporate settings. The carbon calculator is already used by 1,194 people worldwide.
Soil Association will be holding a free webinar today (18th September) hosted by the Cool Food Pro team to delve further into the calculator's impact and to explore the new functionalities. Secure your free ticket here.
