LACA board opens nominations for Main Event bursary funding

25 Apr 2024
The LACA board has announced they have earmarked an annual £6,000 bursary to be used to fund attendance at their annual Main Event for up and coming talent across the UK.

It is expected that each region will nominate people that they have identified as someone with ‘huge potential’ to both develop and benefit the school food service in the long run.

The theme for the 2024 LACA Main Event is ‘Levelling Up School Food’. Providing nutritious meals to children has become increasingly challenging due to significant cost increases, staff shortages and funding shortfalls.

The nominee must not have attended LACA previously as a delegate, but they may have attended the Main Event as a visitor, award nominee or competitor. Bursary criteria:

  • Rising Star nomination to come from the regional chair after consultation with regional committees and members
  • In no more than 100 words the nominator must explain why they have nominated the nominee
  • Invitations/successful nominations will be notified w/c 3rd June 2024
  • Nominations must be received by member organisations or individuals, i.e. individual or corporate member
  • Successful nominees will be entitled to a 2-night Main Event package and individual LACA membership benefits for the rest of 2024
  • Travel costs will be covered up to a maximum of £100
  • The successful nominees will also be linked up to a regional/Board mentor who will ‘buddy’ them around the event

Any nominations will be forwarded to the relevant regional chair for shortlisting before being submitted to the LACA board for final judging and selection.
