LTS Catering, the trading arm of Leicestershire County Council, has won contracts to provide a meals service for eight new schools in Leicester, Derby and Cambridge.

A Food for Life Served Here silver standard accredited service, it already serves more than 31,000 school meals a day to some 200 schools and academies in Leicestershire.

The latest business gains now take the provider into new areas beyond the county boundaries.

Leicestershire County Council deputy leader, Byron Rhodes, said: “Our commercial prospects are continuing to grow and our school food service is something we are extremely proud of.

“LTS Catering has more than 30 years’ experience working with schools and academies. They have the knowledge and skill to help transform catering services so young people eat better, learn better and perform better.

“Working with these new schools is a great opportunity for the catering service to expand.”

Last year, LTS Catering contributed to the £2m income generated by  the council, which is helping to offset reductions in government funding.

Operations and sales manager Jackie Manship, said: “We’re passionate about food and love what we do. We value getting to know the schools we work with so we can maximise results.

“Knowing where food comes from and the nutritional value in meal is an important life skill. We want to ensure the food we’re providing educates children and fuels their imagination and ambitions which reflects in their performance.

“We’re excited to be starting in new areas of the country and look forward to what the future brings us.”
