Nottinghamshire County Council pauses proposed increase to school meal prices

10 Oct 2023
Nottinghamshire County Council has announced that it has paused plans to increase the cost of school meals by 40p, it was reported by BBC News.

In September the council announced the price of school meals would increase from £2.55 to £2.95 from 16th October 2023. Major financial pressures including rising food, staff and energy costs were cited as the reason for the proposed increase.

Further debates will now be held over whether to introduce the proposed price increase.

A council spokesperson said: "The proposed school meal price increase is currently being considered under the county council's call-in process.

“Therefore we are not in a position to put the planned price rise in place from October 16th and have this week written to those schools that use our catering services to let them know about this latest update. We'll be in touch with schools again once the call in process is completed."
