06 Feb 2014

Another place in the national final of LACA’s School Chef of the Year 2014, sponsored by Maggi from Nestlé Professional, has been settled following the North East & Scotland regional final.

The winner will now go forward to the final at the Defence Foodservices School, Worthy Down in Hampshire on May 21st.

Bridget McCulla of South Tyneside Council Catering Services won the regional round, which took place at Gateshead College on January 30th.

She works at Jarrow School and served judges a main course of Indonesian fish with jewelled rice and crunchy summer salad (salmon and Pollock in a mildly spiced Indonesian-style sauce, with rice, salad and flat bread). Her dessert was tropical fruit trio (coconut-infused steamed sponge pudding with pineapple pannacotta and warm mango sauce).

The highly commended main course award went to Pamela Jamieson, who works at Cumbrae Primary School for North Ayrshire Council and served meatball calzone with sticky sauce salad (calzone with meatballs, served with side salad, tomatoes, rocket and balsamic glaze).

The highly commended dessert award went to Jill Mitchell, who works at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School for Gateshead Council, with her apple and blueberry crunch crumble served with home-made custard.
