Result of SCOTY 2014 West Midlands regional final

The West Midlands regional final of LACA’s School Chef of the Year 2014, sponsored by Maggi from Nestlé Professional, has been won by Vicky Brammer, who works at Crescent Academy, Meir.

Employed by City Catering on behalf of Stoke on Trent City Council, she will now go forward to the final at the Defence Foodservices School, Worthy Down in Hampshire on May 21st.

At Stoke on Trent College on February 6th, her winning dishes were a main course of ‘wok a noodle doo’ (glazed chilli coated chicken with noodles, apple, mango and mint salad served with a tomato chilli sauce) followed for dessert by ‘banana and raspberry ripple’ (light banana and raspberry sponge served with velvety coconut custard, raspberry coulis and banana crisp).

The highly commended main course award went to Christopher Townshend, who works at Castle Bromwich Infants School for Solihull Catering Services for Solihill MBC. He served ‘superhero meatball’ (meatball encased in dough served with sweet potato gnocchi, salad and roasted red pepper relish).

The highly commended dessert went to Darren Barnes, who works at Adams Grammar School for Catering Academy on behalf of Telford and Wrekin Council. He served baked Alaska served with a ‘three-fruit’ coulis.
