06 Feb 2014

The Yorkshire & Humber regional final of LACA’s School Chef of the Year 2014, sponsored by Maggi from Nestlé Professional, has been won by Katherine Breckon. She works at Westcliffe CP School.

Employed by North Yorkshire County Caterers on behalf of North Yorkshire CC, she will now go forward to the final at the Defence Foodservices School, Worthy Down in Hampshire on May 21st.

At Doncaster College on January 31st, her winning dishes were a main course of ‘east meets west – sesame seed turkey bites’ (aromatic turkey bites with sweet and sour sauce, scented rice and warmed summer vegetables), followed by dessert of ‘tempting toffee apple tart’ served with rich vanilla sauce.

The highly commended main course award went to Kevin Hardman, who works at Maltby Academy for Education Catering Services on behalf of Rotherham MBC. He served ‘best of British pork served with sage and apple dumpling stuffing served with parsnip mash’.

The highly commended dessert award went to Alison Jones, who works at Toll Bar Primary School for Doncaster Schools Catering on behalf of Doncaster MBC. She served rhubarb panacotta crunch with raspberry milk shake (orange-spiced rhubarb with panacotta, Shreddie crumble topping and fresh raspberry milkshake).
