School caterers invited to take part in Roast Dinner Day 2012

19 Oct 2012

The Food for Life Partnership (FFLP) is inviting our schools and caterers to take part in the third National Roast Dinner Day on November 14. To get involved all you need to do is serve a locally sourced or organic roast dinner, followed by seasonal crumble.

A Food for Life spokesman said participating schools might like to have a go at serving a Bronze standard meal.

This means that it should be seasonal and 75% freshly prepared. The dinner may even include produce from the school’s own garden.

“You can invite parents and the local community into the school to enjoy the meal; grandparents, local businesses, councillors or the press are all welcome

“One of the aims of Roast Dinner Day is to help teachers and schools consider ways they can integrate cooking into the curriculum, getting pupils interested as well as learning valuable life skills.”

To register you should e-mail the name of your school and contact details to fflp@foodforlife.org.uk.

There is also the chance to win prizes for your school by telling everyone how your school celebrated Roast Dinner Day in a blog.

Caterers are encouraged to get blogging on their school’s own FFLP webpage to be in with a chance to win.

For the school that writes the best 'cooking and caterers' blog, there is the chance to win a unique day for your school cook with FFLP School Meals Advisor and celebrity dinner lady Jeanette Orrey MBE.
