31 Jan 2013

The School Chef of the Year (SCoTY) 2013 Eastern regional final was won by Tanya Watkin, who works at Woodland Middle Academy School for Eden Foodservice on behalf of Central Bedfordshire Council.

The heat took place at Barnfield College on January 30th when Watkin’s efforts impressed the judges enough to earn her a place in the competition final at the Defence Foodservices School at Worthy Down on May 22nd.

Her menu constituted a main course of home-made beef ravioli with tomato and basil sauce, foccacia bread and green salad followed by dessert of coconut and vanilla panna cotta served with raspberries and biscotti.

The main course highly commended award went to Claire Bishop, who works for Norse Commercial Services at Hobart High School on behalf of Norfolk County Council.

Her dish was salmon fishcakes, mango salsa and buttered green beans.

The highly commended dessert prize went to Doreen Peacock, who works for LBC Catering Services at Lealands High School on behalf of Luton Borough Council.

She served pear and blueberry crunch served with a vanilla sauce.

SCoTY is organised each year by the Local Authority Caterers’ Association and is sponsored by Maggi from Nestlé Professional.
