Derbyshire school opens ‘joint venture’ kitchen

30 Apr 2012

Derbyshire County Council’s catering department has teamed up with a village committee to fund and operate a new kitchen at Clifton Primary School.

The new kitchen was a joint project between the Clifton Smith Village Hall Committee and the county council catering department.

The committee funded all the building and enabling works and Derbyshire County Council funded the equipment and installation of the kitchen.

Previously the school’s meals were prepared at Parkside Community School in Ashbourne and transported over.

The new kitchen has allowed the school meals to be prepared on site and has already seen the numbers of children taking a school meal rise.

Of the 104 pupils on roll 78 used to take school meals, that has increased to 94 now.

The day the new kitchen was officially opened by Councillor Julie Patten, pupils gathered in the church hall where they sang songs to parents and staff, followed by a cream tea.

Head teacher Heidi Daughtry thanked all those who had been involved in the project, taking it from an ‘idea’ through to fruition.
