Government confirm UIFSM to stay - LACA Chair Statement

05 Jul 2017

Chair of LACA Sally Shadrack said:

“Today we have had confirmation from the Government that Universal Infant Free School Meals is here to stay. This is wonderful news as millions of children, parents and schools will continue to benefit from nutritious and free meals throughout term time.

We know as an industry how important UIFSM is and the difference it makes to children across the country, we now need the Government to undertake a full evaluation of the policy so that they can understand its full impact and so that UIFSM stops coming under regular threat of removal.

It is clear from the Government’s statement that the views of the sector were integral to changing their mind so I would like to thank colleagues and the LACA members who helped by providing information, writing to MPs or signing the petition, all of which ensured our voice was heard by those at the top.

UIFSM is safe and we must now ensure that it stays that way for generations to come."
