LACA chair provides update on UFSM funding

03 May 2023
LACA chair Brad Peace has stated the school food people are ‘pleased’ that following engagement with the Greater London Authority it has been confirmed that funding for Universal Free School Meals, which will be rolled out for one year starting September 2023, has been set at £2.65 per meal.

Brad Pearce, chair of LACA, said: “Caterers across London will be able to provide healthy and nutritious meals to children who need it the most. We hope that Government reflects on the figure announced by the Greater London Authority and urgently increase the funding provided for school meals.

“The current funding for Universal Infant Free School Meals (£2.41) and benefit-based Free School Meals (£2.47) is not enough, when caterers are experiencing 70% inflation on basic foodstuff such as eggs, fish, and tomatoes.”
