Love British Food believes every child should be offered nutritious school meal

22 Jun 2022
Co-chairs of the Love British Food Schools Working Group Alexia Robinson and Jeanette Orrey have written to Secretary of State for Education Nadhim Zahawi outlining their belief that every child should be entitled to a nutritious school meal.

The letter also calls for enhanced food education in schools and states why the funding system for school catering has to change for the better.

The letter states: "We believe that every child should be offered a nutritious school meal, alongside comprehensive education about where their food comes from, how to prepare it and the importance of sensibly sourcing produce which protects the environment and helps to boost the UK’s food security. And if we are serious about the ‘Levelling Up’ agenda, then school catering has to be included and given the priority it deserves."

Love British Food created a new working group to encourage all schools to run a British Food Fortnight menu from 17 September to 2 October 2022.The group will use its social media presence to ‘inspire’ and persuade other school chefs to take part. The national food celebration is a ‘proven catalyst’ in encouraging school caterers to take action to serve British and locally sourced food.
