Meals & More aiming to tackle holiday hunger

17 Mar 2020
Holiday hunger charity Meals & More is aiming to provide 200,000 meals at 250 clubs in 2020 to help support vulnerable children during the school holidays.

Brakes founded Meals & More in 2015 to tackle the growing problem of holiday hunger. There are estimated to be three million children at risk of holiday hunger in the UK.

In 2019 Meals & More supported 216 clubs and provided 110,000 meals for vulnerable children. According to Meals & More around 4.1 million children in the UK experience poverty and food insecurity.

Peter McGrath, operations director of Meals & More, said: “No child chooses to live in poverty and the reasons for child poverty are complex. Our partners who deliver the support in clubs do fabulous work, engaging, feeding, providing activities and reducing isolation, so it is always great to hear how much they value our support.”

Schools could be shut due to coronavirus, making even more children vulnerable to holiday hunger and food insecurity.

Dave Parr, chief executive of Oasis UK, added: “There are approximately 3,000 children who depend on Oasis holiday clubs for healthy, nutritious meals every year.

“The support we receive from Meals & More is vital to making sure those clubs continue running, and have made it possible to reach children who couldn’t access a club before now.
